Where it all began
Nela Haya began in 2023, during my studies, at a moment when I had to choose: now or never. I decided to follow my dream and turn something that had always been close to my heart into something meaningful.
That dream truly began to take shape during a visit to Morocco, when I stopped by my regular khyata — a traditional Moroccan tailor I had been visiting since childhood. Inspired by the beauty of his craft and the rich heritage behind it, I asked him to collaborate with me on creating unique, handmade pieces that tell a story of their own.
What started as a small dream has since grown into a collaboration with multiple local Moroccan artisans, each bringing decades of experience, dedication, and passion to their craft.
Modesty and elegance, hand in hand
We believe that modesty and elegance were never opposites. Our pieces are designed for women who want to feel confident, comfortable and beautiful, without having to choose between their style and their values. From flowing kaftans to everyday abayas and sets, every design is meant to be worn, loved and kept for years.
Why we chose handmade
Choosing handmade was not the easiest path, and we won't pretend it is. Handmade takes more time, collections are smaller, and no two pieces are ever exactly alike. A stitch may sit slightly differently, the trim may carry the subtle signature of the hands that made it. For us, that is exactly the point.
At Nela Haya, we believe that every piece carries a story. A story of tradition, craftsmanship, culture, and the hands that bring it to life. By working closely with Moroccan artisans, we aim to preserve the beauty of Moroccan craftsmanship and keep its traditions alive for generations to come.
It also means our collections are limited. When a piece is gone, it may not come back in exactly the same way. We see that not as a shortcoming, but as part of what makes each piece special.
Sharing our culture
At its heart, Nela Haya is about sharing our culture with the diaspora and with the rest of the world. Many of our customers tell us our pieces feel like something inherited from a mother's or grandmother's wardrobe. There is no greater compliment.
